What Influences a Scar's Appearance
In most cases, scar location and length can be anticipated based on the type of procedure, whether augmentation, reduction or lift, as well as the patient's age, genetics, skin condition and closure technique. Incisions beneath the breast fold or along the areola often fade well over time.
How Long Does a Scar Take to Mature?
Surgical scars typically take about 18 months to mature and gradually lighten over time. Most become substantially less noticeable after one to two years.
How Can You Support Healing?
- Follow your surgeon's postoperative instructions;
- avoid smoking;
- protect the scar from the sun;
- maintain appropriate nutrition;
- when recommended, use scar-care creams or silicone strips and, in selected cases, pressure dressings, injections or laser treatment.
